Fidelity Bank extends Onyeali-Ikpe’s tenure as GMD to 2026

Fidelity Bank Plc has announced its Board of Directors’ decision to extend the employment tenure of Nneka Onyeali-Ikpe, its GMD/CEO, from 2024 to 2026.

The decision was taken at the board’s meeting on February 12, 2024, according to a notice at the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX).

The extension is in furtherance of the bank’s strategic objectives and premised on Onyeali-Ikpe’s sterling performance since assumption office on January 1, 2021.

Fidelity Bank recently disclosed its full-year 2023 financial performance, revealing a substantial surge in gross earnings by 72%, ascending to N575.421 billion from N334.966 billion in 2022. Concurrently, its Profit After Tax (PAT) witnessed remarkable growth, soaring to N99.902 billion in 2023 from N47.165 billion in the preceding year, marking an impressive 112% increase.

Nneka Onyeali-Ikpe, born on July 28, 1964, holds the distinction of being the first female Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Fidelity Bank Nigeria. Armed with a law degree from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, she furthered her academic pursuits with a master’s degree in Law from King’s College London.

With her journey in banking commencing in 1990, Onyeali-Ikpe’s professional odyssey saw her serving as a legal officer for the now-defunct African Continental Bank. She subsequently transitioned into roles as a treasury officer for the First African Trust Bank, followed by tenures at Zenith Bank and Standard Chartered Bank, respectively.

In 2011, she assumed the role of Executive Director at Enterprise Bank, overseeing the bank’s operations in Lagos and other South-Western regions of Nigeria. Subsequently, in January 2015, she brought her wealth of experience to Fidelity Bank, joining as an Executive Director.

Onyeali-Ikpe’s pivotal contributions and exemplary leadership did not go unnoticed. In December 2020, Fidelity Bank announced her elevation to the position of Managing Director, a testament to her sterling track record and visionary leadership qualities.
